She was captured, along with her family, at the [[Battle of Issus|Battle]] of [[Issus]]. Married [[Alexander the Great]]. She was originally bethrothed to Mazaeus, who died in [[328 BC]].

Stateira was murdered in [[323 BC]] by [[Roxana]] (Pl. Alex. 77.4). [[Arrian]] calls Stateira "Barsine," but she is not to be confused with [[Barsine]] the wife of [[Memnon of Rhodes|Memnon]] of [[Rhodes]] (Arr. 7.4.4-8).
