'''Stelios Logothetis''' is a [[Greeks|Greek]] politician who has served as Mayor of [[Nikaia]] and of [[Piraeus]].

Logothetis was born in [[Athens]] in [[1951]]. He studied at the [[National Metsovio Polytechnic Institute]] and took part in the November [[1973]] anti-[[Junta]] uprising.

Logothetis served as Mayor of [[Nikaia]] - a northern suburb of [[Piraeus]] - from [[1978]] until [[1990]] drawing most of his support from the [[Communist Party of Greece]] (KKE). At that time, he sought and won the office of Mayor of [[Piraeus]] itself. He served until [[1998]] supported by left-of-centre political parties.

Logothetis was arrested, while still Mayor of [[Piraeus]], on charges of embezzlement, blackmail, abuse of authority, etc. He was originally sentenced ([[June 12]], [[1998]]) to 42 years imprisonmment which was reduced on appeal to a 14-year suspended sentence ([[2006]]). Eventually, on [[January 6]], [[2009]], the [[Piraeus]] Appelate Court threw out all charges. Logothetis, himself, consistently maintained his innocence and blamed the central leadership of the [[Panhellenic Socialist Movement]] (PASOK) for his legal troubles.

His return to local politics is certain.
