'''Yiannis Parios''' is a modern [[Greeks|Greek]] pop singer, nicknamed "the singer of love".

Parios was born Yiannis Varthakouris, on [[March 8]], [[1946]] on the island of [[Paros]], the youngest of five children. He left his home to study medicine in [[Athens]] but embarked on a singing career instead. In the late [[1960s]] he met [[Giorgos Mitsakis]] who wrote the words to his first song "The Game of Fate". Other records and albums soon followed and in [[1976]] he recorded his first great hit "Now you're just a memory", which sold over 240,000 records. Parios, with his soft, romantic voice, soon became a specialist in love songs. His song "Like a truck out of control" became a mega-hit in [[1989]] and was translated in other languages.

True to his roots, however, Parios also recorded two albums with Greek "island music". Lately, he has sang with his son Charis Varthakouris.
