As a coach, he began his career in the youth system of Panathinaikos. Later, he coached Arionas and Apollonas and finally, in [[1978]], he managed to become head coach of Panathinaikos. In that capacity, he led the team to three consecutive [[A1 League|Greek championships]], 2 [[Greek Basketball Cup]]s and a 6th place in European Club championship in [[1982]]. After that Politis was coach of [[PAOK BC|PAOK]], again [[Panathinaikos BC|Panathinaikos]] and [[AEK BC|AEK Athens BC]]. His achievements were two lost Cup Finals with PAOK, a third place at the FIBA European League Final Four in [[1994]] with Panathinaikos and another lost Cup Final with AEK.

Petros Panagiotarakos (Greek: Πέτρος Παναγιωταράκος) played his entire career for Panathinaikos, part of it as the club's captain. He played one game with the Greek under-21 team against Turkey and, later that same year, on November 14, 1962 made his debut with the National Basketball Team in a game against Yugoslavia (70-81) scoring 10 points. Panagiotarakos died on February 10, 1999 at the age of 56.
