Μέχρι τότε ο παίκτης είχε φορέσει τη φανέλα των εθνικών ομάδων Νέων και Ενόπλων. Κάτω από περιπετειώδεις συνθήκες, το 1968 ο Αντώνης Αντωνιάδης μεταγράφεται στον Παναθηναϊκό. Όσον καιρό αγωνίσθηκε με το «τριφύλλι», αναδείχθηκε σε κορυφαία επιθετική ηγετική φυσιογνωμία όχι μόνο για τον σύλλογό του, αλλά γενικώς για το ελληνικό ποδόσφαιρο. Τη μοναδικότητα να βγάζει εύκολα γκολ την είχε αποκτήσει πριν πάει στον Παναθηναϊκό, όταν έπαιζε στην πανίσχυρη ομάδα A.Ο. Ξάνθης, που είχε προέλθει το 1967 από την αναγκαστική συγχώνευση των ομάδων Ασπίδας και Ορφέως. Το πρώτο επίσημο παιχνίδι με τον Παναθηναϊκό ο Αντώνης Αντωνιάδης το πραγματοποίησε στις 27 Οκτωβρίου 1968, όταν ο Παναθηναϊκός αντιμετώπισε και νίκησε 1-0 τον Απόλλωνα Αθηνών, με δικό του γκολ. He started his career playing for the team of Aspida Xanthi (a precursor of SKODA Xanthi FC) and then moved on to the team of Panathinaikos. Antonis Antoniadis, scored his first official goal with Panathinaikos on October 27, 1968 in the game with Apollon Athens which ended in a victory for Panathinaikos with 1-0.

He held the crown of first scorer five times (1970 with 25 goals, 1972 with 39 goals (second in Europe), 1973 with 22 goals, 1974 with 26 goals and 1975 with 20 goals). In 1971 when Panathinaikos reached the final in Wembley for the Champions League Cup he was the first scorer of the tournament with 10 goals.
Summer of 1978 he was traded to Olympiakos with whom he stayed for one season, playing in 13 games and scoring 7 goals. He later went on to play for Atromitos Athens FC. In 1980 before he retired and became president of PSAP he went full circle and returned to Panathinaikos. Very good using his head as well as he had a strong shot. He has 22 appearances with the Greek National Football Team (6 goals) in the period of 1970-1977.
