Danae Stratigopoulou was born in Athens in 1913 and raised in France.

She was a singer, musician, prolific songwriter as well as a onetime folklore professor of Greek at Santiago University in Chile. She also was a noted translator, namely, of Greek demotic songs into Spanish and poems by Pablo Nerouda into Greek.

She died on January 18, 2009 and buried at the First Athens Cemetery.
