  • February 9: Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announces a near-total lockdown in Attica until February 28, citing a "worrying" rise in hospitalizations and the spread of the Covid-19 variants which are more transmissible.
  • February 15: The heaviest snowfall to hit Greece in 12 years triggers power cuts and disrupts transport throughout the country.

March

  • March 3: A powerful earthquake, measuring 6 on the Richter scale, strikes the Elassona area.
  • March 9: More than 5,000 people demonstrate in Nea Smyrni after a video is shown of a police officer beating a protester two days earlier. A Greek policeman is seriously injured during the protests.
  • March 25: Greece celebrates the 200th anniversary of her independence with parades that are broadcast to the general public due to the COVID19 epidemic.

  • April 9: Veteran crime reporter, Giorgos Karaivaz, is shot dead as he exits his car, outside his house in Alimos.
  • April 18: Greece and Israel sign a record-breaking $1.65 billion defence procurement deal.
  • April 25: Greece mourns its 10,000th casualty due to COVID-19.

  • May 11: 20-year old Caroline Crouch is brutally murdered in her home outside Athens. Her husband says four foreign men tied him up, killed the family dog and then pressed his wife to reveal where their money was before they suffocated her.
  • May 22: PAOK defeat Olympiakos 2-1 to lift the Greek Football Cup for the eighth time in their history.
  • May 23: A Ryanair passenger plane, flying from Athens to Vilnius, Lithuania, with Greek passengers aboard, is forced to land in Minsk by Belarus authorities.
  • May 30: Parliamentary elections are held in Cyprus. The governing party, DISY gathers the largest share of the vote - 27.77% - followed by AKEL at 22.34%, however both parties suffer noticeable losses as smaller parties make gains.
