February

  • February 9: Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announces a near-total lockdown in Attica until February 28, citing a "worrying" rise in hospitalizations and the spread of the Covid-19 variants which are more transmissible.
  • February 15: The heaviest snowfall to hit Greece in 12 years triggers power cuts and disrupts transport throughout the country.

March

  • March 3: A powerful earthquake, measuring 6 on the Richter scale, strikes the Elassona area.
  • March 9: More than 5,000 people demonstrate in Nea Smyrni after a video is shown of a police officer beating a protester two days earlier. A Greek policeman is seriously injured during the protests.
  • March 25: Greece celebrates the 200th anniversary of her independence with parades that are broadcast to the general public due to the COVID19 epidemic.

  • April 9: Veteran crime reporter, Giorgos Karaivaz, is shot dead as he exits his car, outside his house in Alimos.
  • April 18: Greece and Israel sign a record-breaking $1.65 billion defence procurement deal.
  • April 25: Greece mourns its 10,000th casualty due to COVID-19.
