Kresna Gorge was a battle fought in the Second Balkan War between Greece and Bulgaria (July 29 - August 9, 1913).

Crown Prince Constantine, feeling that Bulgaria had already been defeated, ignored Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos' strenuous objections and advanced into the gorge engaging Bulgarian forces.

The battle was fought over 20 km of a maze of forests and mountains with no conclusion until the Bulgarians were forced to put down their weapons when the Romanian army entered Sofia ending the war. Among the dead of this battle were Major Georgios Kolokotronis of the historic family and Evzone Major Ioannis Velissariou who had participated in the liberation of Ioannina in the First Balkan War.
