Georges Sarri
Georges Sarri (Greek Ζωρζ Σαρή) or Zorz Sarri was the nom de plume of Georgia Sarivaxevani, a Greek author[1][2] and actress.
Sarri was born in Athens on May 23, 1925. Her mother was a Frenchwoman from Senegal while her father was a Greek refugee from Ayvali, Asia Minor. From an early age, she developed an interest in acting and studied in the Drama School of Dimitris Rondiris however, her studies were interrupted by World War II. Sarri took part in the resistance and was injured later on in the Greek Civil War. In 1947 she left Greece for France. She returned in 1962 and started her acting career. Among her credits is Phaedra, a 1962 film directed by Jules Dassin starring his wife Melina Mercouri and Anthony Perkins.
Sarri also wrote numerous books. In 1994 she won the Best Children Literature book award for her book Ninette (which was a semi-autobiography of her sister). In 1995 and 1999, she received awards from the "Cycle of Children's Books". In 1988, she was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
As an actress, she won first prize for Best Supporting Actress at the Thessaloniki Film Festival for her role in A murder backstage.
She died in Athens on June 9, 2012 at age 87.[3]
