Giorgos Papavasiliou was a Greek athlete in the 5000m and the 3000m steeplechase.

Papavasiliou was born in Thessaloniki on December 1, 1930. He belonged to Aris and later AEK.

Papavasiliou set the Greek record for the 3000m steeplechase with an 8:45.8 time, achieved in Prague, on June 19, 1960. He also set the Greek record for the 5000m with an 14:34.4 time, achieved in Sofia, on May 25, 1958.

Among his accomplishments were two first-place finishes in the Mediterranean Games of 1955 and 1959 as well as 7 consecutive first-place finishes in the Balkan Games (1955-1961).

Later, Papavasiliou served as Vice President on the board of SEGAS.
