Hursid pasha

Hursid Mehmet Pasha was an Ottoman military and political figure.

Hursid was born in Amman, present-day Jordan, in the latter part of the 18th Century and studied in Alexandria and Great Britain.

He was military governor of Morea when the Greek War of Independence broke out in 1821, however the war found him in Albania fighting Ali Pasha. Still, Hursid Pasha managed to send reinforcements to Tripolis when that city came under siege by the Greek revolutionaries.

After his victory against Ali Pasha, Hursid came into disfavour of Sultan Mahmud II who replaced him as Commander in Chief with Dramali Pasha. He died later that same year (1822).
