Ioannis Palaiokrassas is a Greek businessman, writer, politician and former European Commissioner and cabinet Minister.

Palaiokrassas was born on March 27, 1934. He studied at Varvakios and London School of Economics where he obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

He was elected to the Hellenic Parliament from the Cyclades, under the banner of New Democracy, between 1981 and 1989. He served as Minister of Finance from 1991 until 1992.

Palaiokrassas was targeted by the Revolutionary Organisation 17 November which attempted to assassinated him on July 14, 1992. He escaped unhurt though a passerby was killed.

Palaiokrassas has written many studies on a variety of subjects including the merchant marine, transportation, economic development. He is married with three children and seven grandchildren.
