- 1821: The First National Assembly of Independence begins at Epidaurus (concluded January 15, 1822)
- 1933: The foundations of the building of the Bank of Greece at Panepistimiou Street are set
- 1947: In a lavish wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London, Princess Elizabeth marries her distant cousin, Philip Mountbatten, a dashing former prince of Greece and Denmark who renounced his titles in order to marry the English princess.
- 1952: The house of writer Alexandros Papadiamantis in Skiathos becomes a museum.
- 1977: New Democracy is declared winner of the elections with 41.85% of the vote. PASOK wins 25.3% and becomes the opposition party.
- 1990: Businessman Vardis Vardinoyiannis escapes a rocket attack on his car by the Revolutionary Organisation 17 November.
- 1991: The European Parliament salutes the 2,500 anniversary of the birth of democracy in Greece.
- 1995: Andreas Papandreou is urgently admitted to the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center with serious health problems.

- 1967: Coach Marton Bukovi, who helped Olympiakos to their first two Alpha Ethniki championships, resigns after his team loses four games in succession.
