Philippos Kourantis was probably one of the best defenders in pre-World War II Greek football. He was born in 1904 in Piraeus and played for now-defunct clubs Peiraikos Syndesmos and Peiraikos Omilos before he joined Ethnikos Piraeus. In 1928 he became an Olympiakos player where he continued playing until 1936.

During his career, Kourantis was capped 12 times by the National Football Team of Greece. He passed away on October 17, 1952.
