- 1570: Nicosia falls to the Turks in an orgy of slaughter. Roughly 20,000 of its inhabitants were put to the sword.
- 1667: Clement becomes Patriarch of Constantinople.
- 1922: Turkish troops enter Smyrna. Bishop Chrysostom of Smyrna is slain by a lynch mob.
- 1941: The resistance movement EDES is founded in Athens by venizelist Col. Napoleon Zervas.
- 1951: Gen. Alexandros Papagos wins a small plurality (36.5%) in the general elections but is unable to form a government.
- 1967: Greek PM Konstantinos Kollias and Turkish PM Suleyman Demirel meet at Kesan, Eastern Thrace, Turkey.

- 1993: The government of Constantine Mitsotakis collapses after the defection of four MPs.
- 1996: The government of Cyprus publishes evidence that Solomos Solomou was shot dead by Kenan Akin, "minister of agriculture" of the so-called Turkish Republic of N. Cyprus.
- 2005: Vladimir Putin becomes the first Russian state leader to visit Mount Athos.
