Sofokleous Street (Greek Οδός Σοφοκλέους, Odos Sofokleous) is a street in downtown part of the Greek capital city of Athens. It is named after Sophocles. The street runs from Pireos Street and ends short from Stadiou Street at Pesmetzoglou Street and Aristeidou Street. The street is approximately 600 m long. Further north lies Kotzia Square.
History
Sofokleous is primarily known as the street that housed for many years the Athens Stock Exchange. Over the years the ASE became known as "Sofokleous Street" pretty much as the New York Stock Exchange is known as "Wall Street". However, the ASE moved away on July 2, 2007 to Athinon Street having outgrown its 10 Sofokleous Street facilities.
