Theodoros Theofilogiannakos
Theodoros Theofilogiannakos was a Greek military officer (major) who, through his role as head of the Special Interrogation Section of the Greek Military Police (EAT-ESA), was involved in the interrogation and torture of Greek citizens during the rule of the Junta.
Theofilogiannakos was born in Laconia prefecture. He attended Military School graduating as a second lieutenant in the Greek infantry. He took part in the coup d'etat of April 21, 1967 and was rewarded with a promotion as deputy commander of EAT-ESA. In 1970, he became its commander.
As commander of the Special Interrogation Section of the Greek Military Police, Theofilogiannakos ordered and participated in the interrogation and torture of hundreds of citizens, including fellow military officers.
After the restoration of democracy in 1974, Theofilogiannakos was sentenced to prison for his activities. He spent a total of 18 years in jail before being released in 1992.
Theofilogiannakos died of cancer on September 24, 2015.
