Athanasios Diakos or Ano Mousounitsa is a village in Phocis prefecture in the municipality of Kallii.

Athanasios Diakos is built on the eastern slopes of the Vardousia mountains, at an altitude of 900m. Its population in 2001 was 634 inhabitants.

It was renamed from Ano Mousounitsa to Athanasios Diakos because it is the village where Athanasios Diakos, the hero of the 1821 War of Independence from the Turks, was originally from. His family home has become a historical museum.

Controversy

The village claims to be the birthplace of Athanasios Diakos, however, much written evidence, from that time period, exists that indicates he was actually born in Artotina, on the western slopes of the Vardousia mountains.
