Evridiki (Greek Ευρυδίκη;) is a Cypriot musician. She was born in Limassol, Cyprus, on February 25, 1968. Evridiki grew up in Nicosia.

Music Career

From an early age she performed in choirs and big audiences.

Still at school, she studied music at the National Conservatory of Cyprus. When she finished school, she went to Le Studio des Variétés in Paris, France, where she studied music, theatre and dancing. Afterwards she went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, where she supplemented her musical studies with courses of harmony and instrumentation.

In 1989 she moved to Athens, Greece, worked with several artists, sang in compilations and in 1991 released her first personal album “Gia proti fora”.

She represented Cyprus three times in the Eurovision Song Contest: once in 1992 (Malmö, Sweden) with the song “Tairiazoume”, once in 1994 (Dublin, Ireland) with the song “Ime Anthropos Ki Ego” and once in 2007 (Helsinki, Finland) with the song “Comme ci comme ça“. In 1994 especially, caused controversial reactions from critics and audience since the song had a political meaning over the Cypriot case. However, she became a hot favourite to win cause of the ethnic sound of the song and her very sentimental performance. After a very conservative voting she achieved the 11th place.

In 1994, she married George Theophanous father of her child Aggelos and main composer and producer of her first 9 albums. Giorgos Theofanous called Evridiki his "muse" and, even after their divorce in 2000, still has a very close relationship with her.

Overall, Evridiki is one of the most popular successful and best selling singers in Greece and Cyprus. She has worked with the most important personalities of the Greek music industry such as George Theophanous, Vasilis Papakonstantinou, Giorgos Hatzinasios, Yiannis Spanos, Marios Tokas, Dimitris Korgialas, Vangelis Dimitriadis, Christos Dantis, Natalia Germanou, Eleni Peta, Giorgos and Yannis Vardis, Stelios Rokkos, Sakis Rouvas.

In 2002, she performs Taptim in the musical "King and I" produced by Mimi Denisi with very positive acceptance by public and critics.

After her divorce and having a music break of almost 3 years, she released "Oso fevgo gyrizo" album where she wrote 2 songs. This record will be a state point in her career by becoming more as the Greeks says quality artist. This record having great acceptance by the public and critics and everybody characterised as a new era for Evridiki's career. Since then she has been recognised as the most successful rock Greek singer and has released another critical acclaimed record "Sto idio vagoni".

Currently, she performs in Athens and is prepairing her new CD, which is expected to be released by February 2007.

Participation to the Eurovision Song Contest

Evridiki has participated several times at the Eurovision Song Contest both as a backing vocalist and as a soloist.

As a backing vocalist

  • 1983 For the very first time in her life, she attended Stavros Sideras’ vocal group in the Eurovision Song Contest and the song “I Agapi Akoma Zi”.
  • 1986 In Elpida’s vocal group and the song “Tora Zo”.
  • 1987 She went once more at the as a backing vocalist with Alexia and the song “Aspro Mavro”.

As a soloist

  • 1992 In Malmö, Sweden, with the song "Tairiazoume".
  • 1994 In Dublin, Ireland with the song “Ime Anthropos Ki Ego”.
  • 2007 In Helsinki, Finland with the song “Comme ci comme ça”.
