Kastoria (Greek: Καστοριά) is a city in northwestern Greece. It is the capital of Kastoria prefecture in Macedonia. The name is derived from Castor the mythological son of Zeus. In ancient times, Kastoria was part of the Macedonian kingdom of Orestias which was eventually incorporated into a unified Macedonian kingdom. In Byzantine times Kastoria reached her high point with many buildings, churches and defensive structures being built. The city fell under Ottoman yoke until the First Balkan War when it became part of Greece.
Kastoria is the centre of the fur industry in Greece.
