According to BBC, Archbishop Makarios was elected December 14. See here for details --Lazarus 11:31, 13 December 2005 (EST)

I also ran into a site that claimed it was on December 12...HOWEVER, the vast majority had the date as 13 December. Could it be that they hold elections on one day and count votes the next? (that's how they do it in the UK) If it was mainland Greece, I would've picked the Sunday but I'm not sure if the same holds true for Cyprus. - Irlandos

I had already made an entry (Dec. 11) for the 14th... What should we do? PS. According to the Cypriot Government: Στις 16 Αυγούστου του 1960 η Κύπρος ανακηρύχθηκε ανεξάρτητη Δημοκρατία και ο Μακάριος ανέλαβε καθήκοντα προέδρου, αφού κέρδισε τις εκλογές στις 13 Δεκεμβρίου 1959, με ποσοστό 66.29% . Detailed bio is here. Lazarus 16:52, 13 December 2005 (EST)

Yes, all Cypriot sites (except for an unofficial one - 12/12/59) had the date as December 13. My guess is the ballots were tallied the next day making all official sites correct. --Irlandos 03:14, 14 December 2005 (EST)
