Juan Gilberto Funes was an Argentinian footballer who played for Olympiakos from 1988 until 1989.
He was born on March 8, 1963, in San Luis, Argentina and first played football for local club Huracan.
After that he had spells with
- Sarmiento de Junin
- Jorge Newberry
- Gimnacia y Esgrima
- Milionarios
and
- River Plate
before coming to Greece to play for Olympiakos FC. With the Piraeus club Funes scored some very important goals (2 goals in the 1988 Greek Cup semifinal against OFI FC, etc.).
He left Greece and returned to Argentina to play for Velez, however, his health forced him soon to retire. He died of a heart attack on January 12, 1992.
During his career, Funes was capped 4 times by the national football team of Argentina.
