- 1913: Alexandroupolis (then known as Dedeagac) is liberated by Greek forces during the Second Balkan War. The Treaty of Bucharest will return it to Bulgarian control.
- 1988: Terrorists attack the Greek cruise ship "City of Poros" killing 9 people and injuring 71 others.
- 2004: PM Kostas Karamanlis attends the wedding of Tayyip Erdogan's daughter as an honoured guest.
