Melomakarona (Greek: κουραμπιές) are a popular Greek pastry. They are made of sugar-sweetened dough, sometimes containing crushed almonds, cinnamon and/or orange flavouring and sometimes sprinkled with crushed almonds. After they are baked, melomakarona are soaked in a honey-based syrup.
Melomakarona are commonly made and consumed during the Christmas - New Year season along with Kourabiedes, a dryer alternative.
Greeks from Asia Minor commonly call melomakarona "Phoenikia".
