Papadopoulos was born in Kazakhstan. He started his professional carrer in 1999, playing for Akratitos FC in Greece. He continued to play for them until he moved to Burnley in England. He stayed at Burnley for two seasons, in which he played 39 games and scored 3 goals. In 2003 he transferred to Panathinaikos. He has played with them for the last three seasons. He has won 20 caps (as of January 2009) and has scored twice for Greece. He was European Champion with his national team at 2004 European Football Championship. In June 2006 he renewed his contract with Panathinaikos for a further three years.
