Kouropalatis or Couropalates (Greek: Κουροπαλατης). Title given to the person in charge(?) of the Imperial palace. A very authoritative position.

Although the word derives from the latin words "Cura" and "palatii" and is interpreted to mean "In charge of the palace", the correct interpretation is the "Caretaker of the Palace" and part of the job description may have been to keep the palace in good order (maintenance, repairs, modifications, additions, etc.) rather then managing the personnel and the finances of the palace.
