Agios Athanasios, is a municipality in Lemesos province, Cyprus, just 3km NE of the city of Limassol.

Agios Athanasios has a population of approximately 13,000 inhabitants. Its name is derived from its patron saint, Saint Athanasius.

Originally and until the mid-20th century, it was a village whose inhabitants worked at different aspects of farming or mining or wood cutting. Its population more than doubled after the 1974 invasion of Cyprus by Turkey when 200,000 Greek Cypriots fled their homes in the north, as may refugees settled here.

In May 1986, Agios Athanasios was proclaimed a municipality.
