The VMRO (Bulgarian: Вътрешна Македонска Революционна Организация - Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization) was a Bulgarian paramilitary organisation, established in the late 19th century, that sought to wrest Macedonia from the Ottoman Empire and ultimately annex it to Bulgaria.
The VMRO ended up fighting against the Greeks seeking to liberate Macedonia as well as the Turks. Its guerrillas came to be known as "κομιταζήδες" in Greek.
