Mariza Koch is a popular Greek folk singer.
Koch was born in Athens in 1946 but grew up in the island of Thera. At age 19 she returned to Athens to take music lessons. She first recorded an album - "Arabas" - in 1971 and soon established herself as a premier folk singer. In 1976, she took part in the Eurovision Song contest, held in Hague, with the song "Panagia mou, Panagia mou", written in protest of the Turkish occupation of Cyprus.
Besides traditional folk music - which is sometimes accompanied by synthesisers and other modern instruments - and Aegean island music, Koch has also recorded "Erotokritos" with Nikos Xylouris and has even written her own music.
