Papaioannou was born in 1956 and played for:
During his career he was capped 38 times scoring two goals. Papaioannou is one of few players with over 300 appearances in the Alpha Ethniki.
He stayed on in football after his playing days were over in different capacities: as General Manager of Iraklis, coach of Kerkyra FC, etc.
