- 1940: A German U-boat sinks the Greek cargo ship "Eleni Spathatou" killing 12 seamen.

- 2000: Nine years after his death, Symeon Mavroskoufis becomes the first Greek to enter the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was one of the 8 representatives who signed FIBA's founding declaration in May 1932.
