AO Trikala FC came about in 1964 from the merger of Achilleus Trikala and AE Trikala. The team has played in Alpha Ethniki from 1965 until 1967, 1969, 1972 and 1973.
Their highest placement in the top division was 11th in 1966.
Trikala were the first Greek club to play two foreigners in their lineup - Radovic and Messaros - in 1965.
