Vasilis Lymperis (alt. spellings: Lyberis or Liberis) has gone down in history as the last person executed in Greece, on August 25, 1972. He was sentenced to death on May 7 of the same year for the murder of his wife, mother-in-law and two kids. According to the prosecution, he set ablaze his house at Metamorphosis Chalandri. He doused the premises with gasoline and torched the place in the middle of the night, while his family members were asleep.

According to Lymperis, his relationship with his wife was strained and he blamed his mother-in-law for that. His defense pleeded insanity. He also claimed that he did not know that his kids were in the house that fatefull night. While addressing the court he allegedly said: If you don't believe me, execute me this very moment!

They eventually did.
