Dimitris Kastanas was a Greek-American journalist and broadcaster.
Kastanas was born in the village of Molos, Phthiotis prefecture, Central Greece in 1942. His father, who was a doctor and mayor of the village, was killed the following year by guerrillas. He immigrated to the United States in 1968, at the age of 25.
Kastanas started his broadcasts in 1975 and founded the National Greek Television (NGTV), the first private Greek-owned TV channel in the US. He managed NGTV until August 2012 when he sold it to a group of Greek-American businessmen.
Kastanas died aged 70, on January 14, 2013, after heart surgery. He was survived by his wife, Nomiki, and two children: Matina and George.
