Douvalidis was born on March 10, 1987 in Drama, eastern Macedonia, Greece, to a Greek mother and an American father. He belongs to A.O. Drama and trains under Babis Sdrolas.

Douvalidis holds the Greek record for the 110m hurdles with a 13.34 time, achieved on July 20, 2013, in Athens. He also holds the record for the indoor 60m hurdles with 7.60 as of February 25, 2014.
