- 1922: King Constantine I abdicated the throne.
- 1923: The Italian forces that had occupied Corfu evacuated the island. Greece was forced to pay an indemnity to the Italian government.
- 1932: A major earthquake (7.0 on the Richter scale) rocked Chalkidiki. 161 persons were killed.
- 1941: The resistance movement EAM (National Liberation Front) was founded by several leftist groups.
- 1953: The first Soviet Ambassador took up his post in Athens.
- 2000: Anastasia Kelesidou won silver at the Sydney Olympiad in the discus throw.
