Tsaousis

Tsaousis (Greek: Τσαουσης), (Turkish: çavuş). High ranking officer of the Sultan's Court, with policing responsibilities. They carried instructions to execute orders around the countryside.

In modern times it refers to the rank of sergeant in the Turkish army.
