- 1986: Nikos Galis scores a record 35 points as Greece beat Panama 110-81 for the World Basketball Championship in Zaragoza
- 1992: Nikos Galis leaves Aris Salonica when the club president president Theofilos Mitroudis offers him a coaching post suggesting he should stop his career as a player. Ten days later, Galis moves to Athens.
- 1998: Greek-American Pete Sampras wins his 5th successive Wimbledon title, equalling the record set by Bjorn Borg.
