Sergius I (d. December 9 638 in Constantinople) was the Patriarch of Constantinople from 610 to 638.
Sergius' reign nearly coincided with that of Byzantine Emperor Heraclius. The Patriarch was instrumental in dissuading his emperor from moving the capital away from Constantinople but was unable to dissuade him from marrying his own niece Martina.
During Sergius reign - and Heraclius absence - the siege of Constantinople by the Avars took place, in 626, which ended, according to the Byzantines, by divine intervention on their behalf.
