Aristomenes was an ancient Greek general, the leader of the Messinians against the Spartans during the Second Messenean War (685 - 668 BC).
Aristomenes had some early success in his revolt against Sparta however he was betrayed at a crucial battle by King Aristocrates II of Arcadia and was forced to seek refuge at Eira fortress.
Aristomenes defended Eira for eleven years (682 - 671 BC) before being betrayed once more by Aristocrates.
Aristomenes fled to Rhodes where he died. He was an ancestor of the famous ancient boxer Diagoras.
