Giorgos Makaras

Giorgos Makaras is a Greek former basketball player whose position was forward.

Makaras was born on June 30, 1966 in Serres, Macedonia, Greece. He played for local club AE Serres before joining PAOK in 1987.

Makaras played for PAOK from 1987 until 1992. With them he won the European Cup Winners' Cup, in Geneva, on March 26, 1991 (76-72 over Zaragoza). The following year he won the league title.

Afterwards, he also played for Peristeri BC from 1992 until 1997.

Makaras was capped a total of 15 times by the senior National Basketball Team of Greece, scoring 103 points.

He helped carry the Olympic torch in 2004.
