Jakub Wawrzyniak

Jakub Wawrzyniak (born July 7, 1983 in Kutno, Poland) is a Polish footballer currently playing as a defender for Legia Warsaw. He usually plays as a left-back or center-back. Earlier in his career, he also appeared a few times as a midfielder.

Club career

Wawrzyniak played for Legia Warsaw from fall 2007 to the end of 2008.

On January 30, 2009 Panathinaikos announced his acquisition. On June 4, 2009, the Disciplinary Committee of the Greek Superliga suspended him for three months on doping charges. His suspension was later extended to one year, thus, barring him from any official match until May 5, 2010.[1] The substance in question is not prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.[2]

Panathinaikos announced that they would not take up their buy option on the player and Wawrzyniak returned to Legia Warsaw.

International career

Wawrzyniak made his debut for the Poland national football team in the game versus UAE on December 6, 2006 in Abu Dhabi. He currently has 14 caps to his name.
