Nea Filadelfia
Nea Filadelfeia or Nea Filadelfia (Greek: (Η not τα) Νέα Φιλαδέλφεια, meaning New Philadelphia) is a suburb in the northern part of Athens, Greece. The suburb was settled by Greek refugees from Anatolia (specifically the region around the ancient city of Philadelphia) after the Greco-Turkish War. The Cephissus and Kifissos Avenue/GR-1/E75 is located to the NW. It is located north of the neighborhood of Patissia. It is located S of Attiki Odos which opened in 2001 and wasn't fully connected until February 2004, WSW of Kifissia and W of Kifissias Avenue, W of Marathonos Avenue, N of Athens, NE of Peristeri, E of Kifissou Avenue and SE of Acharnae. The main street is a road linking with Pefki, Dekeleia Avenue and Patission Avenue.
The area was made up of farmlands and forests dominated the area. The forests are in the squares today. In the early to mid-20th century, urban development replaced much of the farmlands. Today, much of the municipality is urbanized while the businesses are along the main roads. Many of the trees are aligned with the streets and in squares.
Nea Filadelfeia has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, a post office and squares (plateies).
The AEK sports club was established in Nea Filadelfeia in 1924. In particular, the Nikos Goumas Stadium was the home ground of AEK FC from 1930 to 2003.
