- 1821: Samos, under Lycurgus Logothetis, joined the Greek War of Independence.
- 1919: Aristides Stergiadis was installed as High Commissioner of Smyrna.
- 1936: 12 tobacco workers were killed in violent demonstrations in Thessaloniki. 282 others were injured.
- 1948: American journalist, George Polk, was murdered in Thessaloniki.
- 1989: Former Minister Giorgos Petsos was injured in a bomb attack by the Revolutionary Organization 17 November in Filothei.
