- 533: Belisarius defeats the Vandals at the Battle of Ad Decimum, beginning the reconquest of the west under the Emperor Justinian I.
- 1916: Eleftherios Venizelos leaves for Thessaloniki with 300 of his followers to take charge of the National Defence Movement.
- 1921: The Battle of the Sakarya ends with the withdrawal of the Greek Army.
- 1931: A powerful earthquake rocks the island of Euboea.
- 1956: Kyriakos Matsis, Michalis Georgalas and five other EOKA fighters escape from Kokkinotrimithia Prison.
- 1986: A powerful earthquake (6.2 on the Richter scale) strikes Kalamata causing extensive damage and five fatalities.
- 1993: USSR leader, Mikhail Gorbachov, visits Athens.
- 1995: An initial agreement is reached in New York between FYROM and Greece: FYROM will remove the Vergina Star from their flag and amend their constitution to reflect the fact that they have no territorial claim against Greek Macedonia. Greece will lift the embargo they imposed against the former Yugoslav republic.
- 1996: The first TV debate in Greek political history takes place as Costas Simitis takes on Miltiades Evert prior to the general elections.

- 1959: Olympiakos draw 2-2 with AC Milan (K. Papazoglou, Yfantis - J. Altafini (2)) for the European Cup of Champions. This was the first participation of a Greek club in European competition.
- 1978: AEK demolish FC Porto 6-1 in the European Cup of Champions.
