Michalis Liapis is a Greek politician and currently Minister for Culture of the Republic of Greece.

Liapis was born on May 8, 1951 and has a Law degree from the University of Athens with postgraduate studies in Paris, France.

He entered politics in June, 1985, when he was first elected to the Hellenic Parliament under the banner of New Democracy. He has been reelected ever since.

In March, 2004, he was appointed Minister for Transport and Communications. In September, 2007, he became Minister for Culture.

Liapis is nephew to the late Constantine Karamanlis - founder of New Democracy - and first cousin to current Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis.
