Georgios Papoulias was a Greek diplomat, foreign minister and permanent representative of Greece to the United Nations.
Papoulias was born in 1927, in Psari, Arcadia prefecture. He studied Law and entered the diplomatic corps in 1955. He served, among other posts, in New Delhi, Bonn, Paris and Ankara.
He was the permanent representative of Greece to the UN between 1975 and 1978.
He served as Minister for Foreign Affairs twice: in 1989 under PM Ioannis Grivas and again in 1990 under Xenophon Zolotas.
Papoulias committed suicide, after prolonged health problems, on September 11, 2009 at the age of 82.
