- 917: The Byzantine army is defeated by the Bulgars at the The Battle of Anchialus.
- 1823: Cretans battle with Turks at Amourgeles during the Greek War of Independence.
- 1948: Democratic Army of Greece commander, Giorgos Yiannoulis, is executed during the Greek Civil War.

- 2003: The president of Panellinios GC Minos Kiriakou becomes the first Greek to be elected in the IAAF Council
