Events
- 1911: Kostis Palamas is suspended for a month by the University of Athens for his defence of the Demotic version of the Greek language.
- 1923: Greece protests the treatment of the POWs of the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922).
- 1941: During World War II, Thessaloniki falls to the German army.
- 1941: Maj. Gen. Ioannis Zisis leads his troops into Turkey rather than surrender to the Germans. Before the Turks can take his weapon, he faces Greece and shoots himself in the head.
- 1943: Agia Efthymia, Phocis prefecture, is destroyed by Italian occupation troops in retaliation for an ambush by Greek guerrilas on the previous day.
- 1945: Greece resumes diplomatic relations with Argentina.
- 1953: Dr. Alexander Fleming and his Greek assistant Amalia Katsouri announce their plans to wed.
- 1991: A fire set on a Greek bus in Istanbul causes the death of 36 tourists. The culprit had Grey Wolves connections.
